Army Asked To Slow Its Drain On Physicians
St Louis Oct 28 Federal health officials urged the Army to slow its drain on civilian doctors until they are needed at the front. Taft warned the Army must not fill its tables of organization until front line action requires doctors. He urged keeping many physicians at home to sustain civilian medical service and to avoid a 1918 epidemic. Nurses should be paid more to attract recruits. Parran noted wartime epidemics have not yet appeared and rural areas reported occasional medical service complaints.
