Alaska drilling bill draws Maryland opposition
Paul Torrence leads Alaska Coalition of Maryland to oppose Senate Bill 1220 the National Energy Security Act of 1941 which would open Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil drilling. He cites environmental risks for the Gwichin people wildlife and Maryland coastal interests while supporters push conservation and production incentives. Maryland Senators Sarbanes and Mikulski back alternatives and residents sent postcards and letters urging rejection.
