Ortega says cease-fire cannot hold in Nicaragua
President Daniel Ortega told a University of Costa Rica audience that Nicaragua’s 19 month cease-fire cannot hold due to savage Contra attacks backed by the United States. He cited last Sunday’s killing of 11 people and said the army high command agreed the cease-fire could not be maintained. Secretary Baker condemned ending the cease-fire as a step backward in Central American peace efforts.
