Failed to Seek Shelter During Lest Fined $5
Frederick laborer W C Lake was fined $5 for violating a municipal traffic ordinance requiring shelter during a red air raid signal. Magistrate Edward J Smith found him guilty after testimony by City Officers Bell and Colliflower, who testified Lake refused to shelter at Grumbine's market or at his home near Sixth and Market streets. Lake argued his home was the closest shelter and suitable to avoid defacing others property, but the court upheld the penalty as part of wartime civil defense measures.
