Commuters Pick New Frederick Parking Location

Mass transit commuters will use the Harry Grove Stadium parking area near the former Francis Scott Key Mall site. The plan requires a parking fee and adds costs for bus and Metro use, but officials say it is a compromise that involves commuter input after prior changes, balancing living in Frederick County with jobs in Montgomery County and Washington, D.C.

Local clubs hear Dr Hopkins oppose socialized medicine

Fifty years ago Dr. Hanford H. Hopkins of Baltimore spoke at a joint gathering of Kiwanis Rotary Lions Business and Professional Womens and Zonta clubs at Francis Scott Key Hotel. He denounced the Wagner Murray bill’s socialized medicine as un American and a power grabbing plan by a growing federal bureaucracy urging the public to choose whether care is provided by doctors or bureaucrats. The Frederick County Health Department inspected the county jail finding it old yet clean with serious faults in wiring plumbing and flies. Sheriff Baumgartner said an inside helped escape was being investigated after reports a door was left unlocked letting inmates reach an enclosed courtyard and escape through an outside door.
