World's Fair bids to rival Centennial display

The World's Exposition to be held in New Orleans this winter aims for a magnificent scale with exhibits from 36 states and 24 foreign nations. A solid pyramid of Cumberland coal and other materials will be shown by Maryland exhibitors. Also featured is an Elkton fair exhibit on bees with a honey pyramid and notable yields. In Eckhart, a homicide case advances as the grand jury continues hearings with about 25 witnesses. John Drum was arrested in Cumberland on suspicion of the Eckhart homicide.

Tramp Burned to Death Near Cumberland Mo

In Mineral County West Virginia near Cumberland two boys found a burnt white man’s remains about one mile from town. An inquest jury ruled death by burning while under liquor’s influence. A quart whiskey lay beside the flask. Estimated age about thirty five. The body, scorched and singed, was buried on the river bank as the supposition he tried to keep warm and fell asleep near the fire.

Republicans Hold Large Procession in Emmitsburg

Republicans in Emmitsburg and delegations from Mechanicstown Gettysburg and nearby counties marched into town with torches for a massive procession. At 8 pm a parade through the streets led to a meeting at the Western Maryland Hotel where J B Askew of Baltimore spoke on the canvass political issues.

Death of an Old Lady in Westminster

Westminster Missouri October 24 Mrs Mary Grammer widow of Jacob Grammer died at her residence this morning at 2 o clock after a lingering illness She was 89 years old Her maiden name was Utz She leaves a large family of grandchildren and great grandchildren Her only son the late William Grammer was editor for a number of years of the American Sentinel of this place Her husband served in the War of 1812 and drew a pension for many years She had led a quiet retired life.

Grog-Boat Menace Reported by British Fishermen
