U.S. Spending Millions To Spread Democracy In Germany
Theodor W. Broecker told Kiwanis in Frederick that in 1951 the United States will allocate 27 million dollars to promote democracy and Western alignment in Germany, a sum he called a strategic investment. He noted Germany’s partial drift toward Western concepts despite lingering old ideas and cited 82 billion dollars in aid as central to rebuilding a politically healthy, Western-aligned Germany. He emphasized converting individuals through mass programs and highlighted an exchange plan sending 1,600 students and 1,100 community leaders to the United States to witness democratic life and return as ambassadors of democratic ideals.

U S General Sees Gain In Atomic Weapons Field
Chairman Gordon Dean of the Atomic Energy Commission said the United States is much better off in atomic weapons than a year ago and is stronger than Russia. He did not give figures or exact progress on the hydrogen bomb and said a site for its manufacture would be announced soon. He suggested no new Russian explosions have been reported and noted President Truman disclosed the first Soviet A-bomb last year.

House Flies Tougher Declared By Association
Cincinnati Oct 24. Dr F C Bishop of the U S Department of Agriculture said house flies have developed resistance to insecticides and new habits, now resting on floors and in grass rather than ceilings. He urged sanitation as the primary approach to the house fly problem in 1953, stressing proper disposal of animal waste garbage and vegetable litter. Earlier Dr Thomas E Snyder spoke on the issue.
