Frederick County musician Allen Brown of The Wishing Well explains country music’s expanding boundaries from traditional roots to rock and blues influences. He notes instrumentation shifts, broad audiences from 8 to 80, and the band’s hopes to cut an album while remaining true to their sound and live appeal. Brown admires Conway Twitty and Johnny Cash for openness to new talent, and credits Buck Owens for shaping the genre as all encompassing.
