In Tokyo on October 23 Admiral Togo reported by Adm Toy and fleet return from war. crowds cheered at Shimbashi as ministers, admirals, and diplomats welcomed him with a triumphal arch and bands. Emperor praised the service while the procession passed through lined streets.
Cesare Romano a prominent Italian banker and depot contractor was held up by two armed men near Herrville, Lancaster County, stealing 3000 dollars. Pottsville October 28 The pamphlet by David Wilcox president of the Delaware & Hudson Co argues that coal operators will rely on coal strike commission decisions upheld by courts to deny UMW recognition. It quotes the commission rulings that open mines to all workers and prohibit discrimination based on union membership while defending workers liberty to remain employed or seek new work even if others strike.
Harrowaburs Kentucky October 20 The Cumberland Presbyterian Bethel presbytery rules that all women members will contribute eggs laid on Sunday to missions The Women’s Missionary Society reported a yearly total of 23099 dollars for foreign and home missions and one speaker urged larger gifts during Easter season.
