Rise In Productivity Economic Shot In Arm
New York economists point to rising productivity as a sign the economy may be improving. Output per man hour is increasing despite ongoing inflation, with productivity seen at least 4.5 percent, driven by more effective use of labor and plant and by shedding least productive workers. Corporate belt tightening and elimination of costly practices also accompany the gain.
