Board Opposes Canal Park Plan in Maryland
The Maryland Board of Natural Resources unanimously rejected a proposed 165 mile national historical park along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal from Washington to Cumberland. They warn the plan would surrender northern Potomac shore, hinder development, and expand federal control while offering few local benefits. The board urged state takeovers of canal sections and support Harpers Ferry park development, with a proposal to study watershed protections.
