Eight Million in Suits Filed in Frederick County Court
Frederick Circuit Court sees more than eight million dollars sought in fifteen civil actions. Cases include two wrongful death suits from traffic crashes, several drinking driver claims, and multiple personal injury actions. Twelve year old author earns national contest prize
Annapolis based 12 year old Michael B Cain wins first in the 10 to 13 year old category of The 1989 National Written and Illustrated by Awards for Students. He wrote a 26 page untitled book that won a publishing contract a $5000 college scholarship a Kansas City publishing visit and future royalties. He plans personal appearances at bookstores next summer and the book will cost about $12.95. He keeps busy with school and art projects, has his own office, and sketches ideas daily.

At Watkins Mill High School in Montgomery Village students explore creative projects using computers and cutting edge equipment valued near 1.5 million dollars. Principal Steves Dickott notes branching curricula let students adapt papers with various type styles and artists’ names. The 900 students come from Montgomery Village Junior High Gaithersburg High and MLK Jr. Junior High, with 35¢ computers, six labs, two writing labs and a TV studio enabling in class broadcasts and multimedia lessons.
