Woman Killed Seven Hurt In Head On Collisions
A West Virginia woman was killed and seven injured in two separate crashes within 30 minutes on US routes near Thurmont and Myersville. Mrs Gussie Lilly, 62, died at Frederick Memorial Hospital after her 1965 sedan crossed the center line and collided with Donald Hurley, 33. Lilly’s husband Owen Lilly, 62, was listed in critical condition with facial injuries. In the second crash, five people were injured on US 40 Braddock Mountain near Frederick. Charlotte Lewis, 38, and Ray Hogan, 51, were admitted with facial lacerations, while Jessie Winfield, 62, and Edna Miller, 22, were treated and released. Edna’s four-month-old son Timothy was also treated. Investigations by Troopers Reburn and Reed were ongoing with no charges filed yet.

City Seeks Federal Aid For Housing In Frederick
Frederick City plans to seek federal certification for its Workable Program for Community Improvement to unlock funds for public housing. City engineer Robert J. Rothenhoefer said revisions are complete and will go to the HHFA regional office in Philadelphia on Monday. Certification by year end would allow 1967 construction funds for about 200 low rent units, as the Frederick Housing Authority has waited two years for approval.

Red Cross Provides Many Services Eighth of a Series

Flower Pots Come Down Two Feet in Frederick

Slag Heap Tragedy Hits Welsh Mining Village
A coal slag heap collapsed in Aberfan Wales burying a school and houses. Six houses were demolished. 16 bodies recovered including 14 children and 2 adults. About 125 to 130 children and several adults were missing as rescue crews, many miners, dug through rubble.
