Last night dropped to 29 degrees in a seasonally early freeze, the coldest since March 30. Frost killed remaining flowers and tomato plants, with pumpkins ripening and corn being husked. ground frozen and ice reported in low spots. Hiking and hunting interests rise as October sunshine returns.
The 99th annual Maryland Baptist Union Association session concluded Friday night at Seventh Baptist Church in Baltimore after a midweek gathering. Rev. W. C. Royal of Frederick was elected president for a third term, with J. K. Falkenstein of Baltimore as vice president and Dr. Raymond K. Nelson of Baltimore as clerk. Frederick attendees listed among many families and individuals.
Paris funeral for Raymond Poincare, war president and financial savior, featured a gun carriage procession from the Pantheon to Notre Dame with full military honors. President LeBrun, just back from King Alexander’s funeral, led the procession. In a separate item, Homer Barnhouse, a 26 year old mill worker from Derwood, who lost his right arm in a Thursday accident, is recovering well after surgery at Frederick City Hospital.

Bruno Richard Hauptmann is a state prisoner in New Jersey and must face trial within a month for the Lindbergh baby murder. He is held in solitary confinement after extradition from New York failed. Arraignment is expected in three or four days, per Attorney General Wilson.
New York stock market opened with little movement in a dull session. Transfers hovered around 1000 shares with many issues unchanged and a steady close. Call money held at one percent as traders sat on the sidelines. The pound sterling opened around 4.95 and a half.
Justice Bowers in Poyntes Court morning session heard Helen Courtrie of Washington D C prosecute with State Officer E W Reith. A $10 collateral was forfeited on a reckless crossing charge. A separate reckless involving Wilms Drow colored of this city was dismissed.
A Republican campaign caravan will tour Frederick County on Wednesday with candid ates and workers visiting multiple towns. Henry W Nice will lead a 25-car procession ending in an 8 p.m. Opera House rally. state candidates speak and county candidates are introduced.
Marshall H. Grumbine, caretaker of the Court House, stood on the second floor and pulled the rope to ring the bell when an old rope failed during the incident. He noted that in his 21 years at the Court House the rope has never been replaced.
Frederick city article lists ten teams for the annual Y campaign to raise about 3000 dollars for the coming year. Preliminary meeting for team captains set Monday at 7 PM at the Y to issue instructions and solicitor cards. Team rosters include Ramsburg Nielsen and others across 10 squads.
The Hood College freshmen and transfer students attended an afternoon reception at Raudy Athletic Association cabin from 2 to 5:30 p.m. The event, postponed from October 6 due to weather, featured transportation by truck, horseback, and foot with staff coordinating trips. Activities included a mountain hike and singing college songs, followed by refreshments. Faculty members Ruth E. Perry Alice Gates Elizabeth Burmer and Claremond Harper attended, with guests of honor Mrs Henry I Stahr Martha Elizabeth Stahr and Henry Stahr Jr. Hostesses Miss Fletcher and Miss Margaret Storm led the event.
Hood College represented at a conference of the Women’s Collegiate Association in Meadville Pennsylvania. Fioranes Belames, secretary, and Mas Ruth Mas Beam, secretary leader, led a discussion group on topics including reasons for attendance and goals of the meeting.
An informal dance will be held in the serial room of Meyran Hall at Hood College. Sponsored by the Music and Dance clubs, hosts Mrs Walter G Parker and Miss Alice Gales will welcome guests. Music provided by Dave Hagan and his orchestra.
Mrs. Edgar H. McBride of Frederick was named chairman of the Frederick County American Red Cross membership enrollment. The annual drive runs from Armistice Day, November 11, to Thanksgiving, November 29, with about 2,000 members enrolled last year. A local headquarter at 317 North Market Street is donated by Miss Clara Kline.

Baltimore October 20 AP a banker told state bank supervisors at a national convention that a political bureaucracy in Washington should not control all banks. He warned branch and chain banking advocates have not troubled the system as much as proposals to take over all banking functions by the government. Andrews blamed improper political influence for most bank supervising trouble.
Berlin Oct. 20 AP The Con es synod claims 80 percent church membership and orders all church councils to refuse Reichs church authority and follow only the synod. The resolution, adopted almost unanimously, ends a year and a half of opposition to Hitler’s Reichs church. It asserts the church governs ecclesiastical matters under state supervision and communicates the statement to the government.
