Frederick County Faces Major Tax Shift Under State Plan
A survey of Sterbow commission proposals shows Frederick County would gain up to 90 dollars per year from income tax reallocations and up to 53 990 for teachers salaries and 34 009 for construction if counties match funds. The plan reallocates state proceeds from admissions licenses and recordation taxes to the localities where collected, with counties and towns receiving a larger share of income and race track revenues.

Cover Crop Supplies Much Needed Humus
College Park reports gardeners seek cover crops to build humus at low cost. A cover crop provides organic material, reduces the need for manure, and helps weed control by tilling a seedbed to suppress late and perennial weeds.

Soil Conservation Practices Produce Excellent Results
The Soil Conservation Service reports strong results from 1946 efforts across Frederick County farms. Cyrus B. Grossnickel notes corn and hay yields improved, potentially reducing lime and fertilizer needs. Nearby, the Hevner brothers show significant gains since adopting a full soil conservation program. Contour farming enables efficient chopper use, and new fields near New London and Shookstown begin soil programs. Ponds grow in popularity for fire safety, with typical sizes around half an acre and large water capacities. Kudzu vine interest rises after Readers Digest articles, with plantings observed near Graceham. County supervisors held meetings and plan a ministers tour.
