Same Amount Christmas Goods For This Year Washington

Christmas shoppers will find about the same amount of goods in department stores this year as last. Rome. Oct. 148 Fifth Army troops have captured several peaks and villages in the southern approaches to Bologna. The Fight Army forced a bridge head across the Pisatello river north of the Bologna Rimini highway in the Adriatic sector. The bridgehead east of Cesena was gained against strong German opposition. Indian troops of the Eighth Army captured Acquarola and Rover sano in the foothills south of Cesena.

British Take Tiddim Base in Western Burma

British troops advancing into western Burma have captured the Japanese base at Tiddim. Allied headquarters says the base was used in the April invasion attempt on India. British forces pushed south after driving the retreating Japanese from Imphal toward the south along the escape route. The fate of the Tiddim garrison was not disclosed.
