A runaway couple from Henry county Ky, George A. Elkins and Mollie Stewart, wed on the roadside near Justice John McCann’s residence on Green Street between Ninth and Tenth. After license, they chose a quick ceremony in the open, with Col William Hardin holding an umbrella as the groom paid the squire for services. They rode away soaked and married.

Shocking Tragedy at Staunton Virginia
In Staunton Virginia last Thursday after Governor Cameron spoke to veterans a farmer William Montezums Brown was shot by Stuart Conner in the rotunda of the fairgrounds. Brown died minutes later, his wife protected him briefly before the killer was disarmed. townspeople fear lynching and a guard of thirty five was sworn in for the jail. Conner, from a prominent family, has a history of violence and insanity is expected as a defense plea.
