Warm days and cool nights continue in Frederick County
More pleasant weather is forecast by the National Weather Service for Frederick County with today mostly sunny highs in the low seventies and tonight partly cloudy lows mid forties to fifty. Highs in the seventies are expected Thursday with lows in the forties, while yesterday’s high reached 63 at 3 30 p.m. at the Sound Source station atop the News Post building. Fire alarms reported over the past 24 hours ending at 8 p.m. included gas leak calls on Twin Lake Drive and Lake Front Court, a brush fire near New Market, a fire in Urbana and a house fire near Green Valley Urbana with ambulance activity totaling 29 emergencies and 4 routine calls. Maryland lottery results for Tuesday night include Pick 3 3 5 3, Pick 4 6 6 3 0 and Bonus Match 5¢ 9 15 30 31 33 34, and Tuesday afternoon Pick 3 7 4 3 and Pick 4 5 3 3 0.

Frederick County commissioners weigh BGE gas franchise plan
The Frederick County Commissioners debated granting Baltimore Gas and Electric a gas franchise in the eastern county area currently served by Washington Gas Light. A decision is expected within 10 days while Washington Gas and the BGE bid to share the service area. Other actions included Thurmont regional plan approval, Mark Hoke as county rep on a $1.3 million economic development grant, and three farms added to the agricultural preservation district.

Damp conditions spread across much of the region as Tropical Storm Roxanne brought heavy rains and flooding to southern Florida. Forecasters warned of additional showers and thunderstorms, with a large high pressure system keeping northern areas mild and mostly dry.
Woman shot at Baltimore bus stop leaves baby unharmed
A teenage gunman fired through a bus door in northwest Baltimore wounding Cynthia Jones 39 in the neck as she held a baby girl. Jones died hours later at Sinai Hospital. Investigators say the suspect targeted someone else and fled the scene.

Boy in custody after substitute teacher homicide death
In St Louis an unidentified year old boy detained by the juvenile court after a substitute teacher Nedra Morris 51 died from a chest blow at Marshall Elementary School on October 10. Medical examiner Dr Michael Graham ruled the death a homicide citing heart disease aggravated by exertion stress and chest blows. Police said the student attacked her after refusing an assignment.

Crohn's expert to speak in Frederick County

Two Juveniles Charged After Rocks Hit Trucks On I-70
Two youths were charged with throwing objects at vehicles, reckless endangerment, and malicious destruction of property after two tractor trailers were struck on westbound I-70. A motorist alerted police, Trooper Fogle chased them, and deputies recovered them near Monarch Ridge. Witnesses or victims urged to contact Frederick barracks.
