Death penalty imposed in Montgomery County after 14 years

Montgomery County jurors on Monday sentenced James Edward Perry to death for the first degree murders of Mildred Horn her son Trevor and nurse Janice Saunders marking the county's first such verdict in 14 years. In Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Michael Mason sentenced Steven Philips to 20 years in prison after he pled guilty to second degree murder in the beating death of Onnie Lowell Mowell, 54, during an October 1994 argument over money. Philips faced a 30 year sentence with all but 20 suspended.
