Woman loses bid to block police use of confession
A Brooklyn woman Judith A. Parsons, 22, failed in a suppression bid to exclude her police confession from a trial in Frederick County. Judge G Edward Dwyer Jr. ruled police methods lawful after a May 9 1969 incident yielded 102 grams of cocaine and nearly 31 000 in cash. Parsons, who faces cocaine possession with intent to distribute and conspiracy charges, has pleaded not guilty and seeks a jury trial. Co-defendant Fred Charles Muzzy, tied to the same case, faces trial later this year for importing large amounts of cocaine.

Flooding Hits Appalachia Prompt Evacuations and Damaged Floodwall
Heavy rain from the remnants of Hurricane Jerry caused flooding across the Appalachians, forcing evacuations near the Tug Fork and West Virginia–Kentucky line. Up to four inches fell in southern West Virginia as officials warned buses could be blocked and the Williamson floodwall, only partly complete, faced its first major test with river cresting.
