Shopping Center Plan Approved After Objections
Preliminary plans for a 5400 shopping center along Seventh Street Pike were approved by Frederick City Planning Commission after three hours of discussion. The vote was not unanimous with E Paul Magaha opposing. The plan includes a ten foot planting strip, space for an interchange, and relocation of a filling station and restaurant to 200 feet from the property line. The center would serve about 25,000 people with 18 stores, but no large department store is yet signed. Contention focused on impacts to downtown merchants and the proposed bypass route.
