ALPA blames old rules and radar for Brunswick crash
The Air Line Pilots Association tied the May 20 Brunswick Md midair collision to outdated Civil Air Regulations and obsolescent radar at the Washington Center. The six-person crew accident team cited exhaustive wreckage study and witness testimony, noting 12 died and one jet pilot survived. ALPA urged a full rule review and rapid retirement of obsolete radar, with National Airport’s 1957 radar to be replaced by a new system with longer range. The CAB and Air Force investigations continued, with no comment from CAB. Laymen's Sunday announced for Walkersville United Church of Christ with a breakfast for men and guest speaker Hallar Best.
