Death toll rises in Alpine floods and landslides
Torrential rains in the Alps killed at least eight and left many missing across Italy and Switzerland. Authorities evacuated about 3,000 people from Valle d'Aosta and Piedmont as mudslides buried homes near Gondo and Stalden. Rescue teams searched for 13 missing in Switzerland amid fears of further landslides while a 15 year old and an 85 year old died in the region. The Simplon tunnel and nearby roads were severely disrupted as officials warned of dangerous conditions.
