Fort Detrick a Family Tradition Since 1946
Fort Detrick has been home to three generations of the Hahn Shafer Skinner family. Ann Hahn began in 1946, later becoming a longtime secretary and library volunteer while daughters Patricia Shafer and Phyllis Skinner built careers in Civilian Personnel and Logistics. Angela Shafer, 26, now serves as secretary at the Toxinology Institute of Infectious Diseases, keeping the family legacy alive at USAMRIID. The three generations share memories of guarded posts, hallways, and constant work, with occasional family gatherings amid post life.
