Trade deficit shrinks in August as exports rise
The US merchandise trade deficit fell 68 percent to 97 billion in August aided by higher aircraft sales and lower oil imports. Exports rose 3 percent to 382 billion while imports edged up to 479 billion. Through eight months, the deficit is on a 115.2 billion annual pace, signaling a weak year ahead.
