Soviets Expell Two Tourists Over Border Incident
The Soviet Union expelled two American tourists Harney C. Bennett of Bath Maine and Mark I. Kaminsky of Jefferson Township Cass County Michigan after accusing them of entering a forbidden zone near the Czechoslovakian border. The State Department said the embassy in Moscow had sought information for months, while expressing concern over the Soviet action and pledging to assist in locating details. The incident follows weeks of unanswered inquiries and may prompt a protest from Washington as officials seek explanations. Separately, Thomas White of the Baltimore News-Post will address University of Maryland journalism students on National Newspaper Week October 17.
