Proper bulb planting requires well drained sites or raised beds with six inches of added height. Avoid shallow or late rooting bulbs as frost and soil settling affect depth. Tulips, late bloomers, and lilies require specific depths. Madonna Lily needs 3 to 4 inches, while others may need 10 inches.
