Maryland May Have Ten Million Surplus In State Budget

Maryland officials foresee a possible ten million dollar surplus this fiscal year as tax revenues rise. Sales tax receipts surged during July to September, with a 164 percent increase over last year, potentially lifting total sales tax to around 40.4 million. A carryover surplus and higher income tax receipts could add to this, easing the income expenditure gap and possible tax increases.
