Florida caucuses heat up as Kennedy and Carter duel
Florida Democrats in 67 counties caucus to pick 879 of 1,717 delegates for the state convention amid a backdrop of presidential campaigning. Carter aides woo black voters and mobilize federal aid, while Kennedy backers claim 843 delegate candidates, with outside supporters funding much of their effort. The event doubles as a test of organization and enthusiasm ahead of the 1980 primary.
