Rotary Youth backs new city pool at old reservoir site
The Frederick Rotary Club Youth Committee supports the Recreation Commission’s plan for a new municipal swimming pool at the old reservoir site on West Seventh Street. The committee chair Dr. Robert J. Furie will present a report to the club board and push for backing the project. The commission urged a detailed fall survey of the site with the aim of building a pool soon. The current pool, built in the 1920s, is described as antiquated and undersized for a city of this size, with more than 900 swimming lessons offered last summer.

Frederick man critically injured in Md 144 crash
A 47 year old Frederick resident Russell Leo Runkles of East Church Street is in critical condition at Frederick Memorial Hospital after his 1957 sedan hit a concrete bridge abutment on Md 144 near New Market. He suffered internal injuries head and body lacerations and received a tracheotomy in the emergency room. Police reported no charges. The Mt Airy ambulance squad noted this was their fourth serious night of calls.

Stove Explosion Burns Woman at National Bureau of Standards
A 30 year old woman Thelma Mason sustained second degree burns on arms when a stove in a food trailer at the National Bureau of Standards exploded. She was treated at Suburban Hospital in Bethesda and released. The incident caused little damage with no other injuries reported. Goldwater Cavalcade Planned for Frederick County Tour
The Goldwater Headquarters in Frederick and Mount Airy plan a countywide Cavalcade For Goldwater this Saturday. A double headquarters caravan will travel from Mount Airy and Ridgeville through Bartholows, New Market, New London, Central, Libertytown, Mount Pleasant and Ceresville to the Frederick Shopping Center. The combined caravan, led by Anthony J. Lazarewicz and the Hood College Goldwater Girls, will visit Ridgeville and Mount Airy for rallies before returning to Frederick County for a half day ending at the Frederick Shopping Center. Last week the caravan visited Lime Kiln Urbana Buckeystown and Tamsville and was well received. Goldwater caravans will run each Saturday morning in different county sections until the general election.
