Informed quarters view the Czech new foreign minister's Berlin visit as a move toward aligning Czechoslovakia's policy with Germany and the Rome-Berlin Axis. Nazi circles call the ambassadorial promotion a sign of pro-German influence among Czech factions.
Mr and Mrs A V Eckenrode hosted visitors including Mr and Mrs B Bentz and family from Toms Creek and Mr and Mrs Robert Stine of Thurmont. Mrs Eckenrode is ill. Quentin Eckenrode and son joined visiting Mr and Mrs Guy Warren of Keysville. Harry Clutz and Rosa Valentine spent Sunday evening with Wade Brown and daughter Barbara.
John Ohler and wife and Mrs Shipley with daughter visited Sunday at the Milton Spengler home in Gettysburg. Mrs Nettie Hawk, who had stayed several days, returned home to Gettysburg. Mrs H 3 Wolff and Miss Caine Hers made a business trip to Hanover Saturday morning.
Jean near Littlestown hosts Mr and Mrs Charles Snider and family Gettysburg for a Sunday visit. Gettysburg guests join a Virginia trip via Skyline Drive Shenandoah Caverns and call on Rev. Herbert Schmidt Woodsboro. Local calls feature Rev Paul Beard and many visitors from Taneytown Middleburg and beyond.
Maryland Synod delegate Mervyn Fuss attended the National convention in Baltimore. Rebexah Lodge met at Odd Fellows Hall with Marianna Hess presiding. Card party planned for Oct 17 with Odd Fellows. Friendship Sisters of U B Church held a covered dish social for 51. Annual chicken and oyster supper set for Dec 3. Fuss spoke at Krider’s Lutheran Church annual Sunday School Rally. Residents Knapp Arnold and family visiting Ellenside cottage. Lutheran Mite Society and Brotherhood hosted a semi annual social for 193 members with a program including Aunt Mary. Rev Hafer spoke on the National Brotherhood convention in Baltimore. Luther League officers elected for coming year: Virginia Ohler president, Thomas Albaugh VP, Mildred Carbaugh secretary.

Visitors included Merle Ridinger and family from Baltimore, John McSherry and Mary Jane Thompson of Littlestown, Murry Eyler of Dewar, Lester Spangler and family from Two Taverns, Howard Sterner and Thelma Sterner with Floyd Sterner and Miller family of Barlow, and Airs. Harry Welty and Charles Welty with Westminster residents. Also noted were Mrs. Harvey Otinger and Gertys- mentioned among Harney residents.
