New Palau Landing by U S Forces Reports Progress

American forces extended control in the Palau islands with a second landing in three days, seizing Beirakasera islet as part of a southern Palau operation. Meanwhile Balikpapan raids targeted oil refineries, as MacArthur announced four hours of bombings on Dutch Borneo.

Missing Over Holland Loss Comes From War Report

James W Honeysett received word that his brother Lee and Lt Henry G Moneysett pilot of an Army Air Forces plane were missing in action over Holland since September 18. No further details were given by the War Department. The 2 year old pilot sent a letter from England dated September 17 saying he was going on a more dangerous mission. The brother believed the Army pilot carried paratroopers in the aerial spearhead into Holland.
