County supports funding request for five school projects

County begins FY98 with 1.1 million surplus for budget

Frederick County will start its fiscal 1998 budgeting with a 1.1 million surplus from the 1996 year end. Comptroller Browning reports unaudited funds available for next year, while 1996 ended with a 1.7 million surplus after a 5 percent set aside. Revenue from property taxes exceeded expectations by 732,878 dollars, totaling 94.2 million. Water and sewer bonds totaling about 30 million may be issued in September for cash flow.

Bartlett campaign facing debt disclosure violation under federal election law

Bartlett campaign failed to disclose a $1,300 debt to Corporate Intelligence Researchers of Fairfax, who investigated Neil Dhillon, a Democratic challenger. The firm’s results were provided before the 1994 primary, but the debt was listed only in mid 1995 after the election. FEC rules require disclosure when service is received, not when billed. Protector armored carrier joins Frederick County Sheriff fleet

The Frederick County Sheriff's Office added an armored personnel carrier named The Protector. Sheriff Jim Hagg says it is not offensive and not armed with firearms, intended to aid pinned or injured people and support SST hostage negotiations. The six wheel beige carrier, with a top speed of 56 mph, seats six, features a side door and can resist high powered rifle fire.
