Cornerstone laid for Frederick High School addition
A cornerstone for Frederick High School’s new addition was set by Mrs. Mary Condon Hodgson with 1939 marking the date. The copper box from the original cornerstone was placed behind it containing items from 1939 and new additions. The J. B. Ferguson Co. builds the addition at 466000 dollars, promising showers for girl physical education, upgraded music facilities, dressing rooms, expanded cafeterias, and improved science labs plus a large flexible space for gatherings.

In the Supreme Court building, thieves ripped open a cigarette vending machine on the ground floor and stole 27.60 from the coin box. Workers near the cafeteria heard a loud crash as the front of the machine was broken. The robbery occurred just after the justices ended their Monday session one floor above.

Mental Health Committee Appointed in Frederick County
The Frederick County Commissioners appoint Rev. Joseph Clem as temporary chairman of a 12 member Frederick County Mental Health Advisory Committee. Federated Charities Aids Needy With Equipment Loans
Federated Charities in Frederick County offers free access to hospital beds wheelchairs walkers and other sick room items to those who cannot afford rentals as part of the United Appeal drive.
