First Degree Murder Verdict Given By Jury

A Circuit Court jury returned a first degree murder verdict against John W. Graves, 41, of Baltimore, in the knife killing of Eugene Howard, 46, in Frederick. Sentencing was deferred as defense plans a motion for a new trial. Graves claimed Howard killed himself during a scuffle over Graves’ reconciliation with his estranged wife. The state noted four knife wounds on Howard and questioned the chance of self-inflicted wounds. Jury deliberations extended beyond four hours into Monday night.
