Price Increases Guided For 11 Major Food Groups

Washington measures announced by Price Administrator Leon Henderson propose a new pricing formula allowing increases in 11 major food groups. The plan aims to ease shortages by enabling restocking of items such as canned vegetables and sugar. Some items will have optional ceilings, while lard and dried fruits become compulsory. Dried prunes fall under price controls for the first time. The action seeks to streamline wholesale and retail flows, with effects on consumer prices varying by store. OPA expects 20 to 28 percent of retailers to apply the new ceilings, while many shops may need to restock completely.
