Maryland Drought Committee Backs No Federal Aid

The Maryland Drought Committee decided farm conditions are not dire enough for federal emergency aid. They noted southern Maryland suffered most, with a good tobacco crop aiding collateral for local loans. Few farmers would qualify for disaster assistance even if declared, needing under 60 days of feed and no other financing. The panel will reconvene if conditions change.
