Independent bid challenges party bosses in county primary
State Senator George Le Kaufman announced an independent bid to succeed himself after the primary. He filed a petition with over 200 signatures seeking to place his name on the ballot. Three candidates now contend for state senate: Dr. Charles W. Goodell the Republican nominee and James H. Gambrill Jr. the Democratic nominee. Kaufman, defeated in the primary, accuses the Republican organization of unfair methods and pledges to expose wasteful county and state practices. Marion Miller, Woodsboro Republican former justice of the peace, seeks sheriff as an independent with Democratic support rumored.
