Maryland Farmers Face High Weed Control Costs

Maryland farmers spend over 600 thousand dollars yearly on weed control chemicals. Johnsongrass infests about 34 000 acres, causing losses of 450 000 bushels of corn and 150 000 bushels of soybeans. Dr Service P Ellington urged state and federal action to control noxious weeds on lands under government ownership.
