State Game Commission Considers Merit System and Wildlife Budgets
The State Game and Inland Fish Commission met in Baltimore to debate merit system reform for wardens and technicians, propose raising probation to one year, and discuss compulsory retirement age. They backed a potential 60-year retirement, proposed converting a Mary land farm to a wildfowl propagation plant, selling land at Gwynbrook Farm, and lobbying for licensing reforms in 1949. The group also planned changes to boat regulations on Deep Creek Lake, a wild waterfowl sanctuary on the Potomac, and federalizing wardens. The gathering included key officials and finished with plans to attend a Maryland Sportsmen meeting.
