Mine Workers Split from CIO in Cincinnati Vote
United Mine Workers of America voted to withdraw from the Congress of Industrial Organizations in a near unanimous decision. Jonn L. Lewis urged delegates to choose between him and CIO, citing financial debts and anti-union campaigns by CIO leaders. He called for unity only with groups ready to cooperate and criticized CIO officials and their loans.
