Frederick County Teachers Meet Discuss School Evaluation

A meeting of the Frederick County High School Teachers Association was held at Frederick High School. Arvin P. Jones presided, with Dr. R. D. Matthews of Emmitsburg and Dr. W. P. Eels of Stanford University as speakers on evaluating high schools for the American Council on Education. AM teachers attended. Also, Justin Lawrie of Petworth will lead a homecoming concert and music program at Urbana M E Church with Sunday services preached by Rev. J. William Briscoe and Rev. Elmer Benson. Lunch to follow in the parish hall.

Annual Retreat Closes at Mount Saint Mary’s College

In Emmitsburg on October 7 the Mount Saint Mary’s College annual retreat ends with a Solemn High Mass celebrated by the institution’s president, Right Reverend Monsigneur John L Sheridan. Retreat Master Father John Weidinger directs the event, a recent Mountaineer hire who graduated from Marquette University and earned a Master’s from Saint Louis University.

Homecoming Services at Urbana Methodist Church

Tomorrow Urbana Methodist Episcopal church hosts homecoming services with Rev J W Briscoe as pastor officiating at 11 am. Rev J E Benson of Harford county preaches, with special speakers in the 2:30 pm afternoon service. Music by James H Harris and Mrs Sherman P Bowers. Basket lunch and supper served in Parish Hall.

Brethren groups attend Eastern Maryland District supper

Several Frederick county men from Brethren churches traveled to Washington to join the Eastern Maryland District mass meeting and fellowship supper at the Washington church. Thurmont attendees listed include Linford Rosenberger Milton O Sawyer Arthur Green Lford Green and Lester Welfe. Rev William Milne a Presbyterian minister for forty two years is retired after serving in Sykesville Springfield church Harmony Grove Lisbon and preaches his final sermon October 16. He and his wife reside at Freedom on Liberty road. There is no pigment in a pea cocks feather. The rainbow coloring results from prism like cells that break light rays.

Women Attend Church Meeting in Hagerstown

About 75 women from Walker sville Woodsboro Thurmont Middletown Clear Spring Westminster Hagerstown and Frederick attended the Missionary Educational Institute of the Women's Missionary Society of the Maryland Classis at Salem Reformed Church Hagerstown led by Rev H A Fesperman. Mrs BR Paul Smith presided with reports on Akron meeting and Girls Missionary Guild while Mrs Henry H Abbott and Mrs L L Anewalt spoke on mergers and union plans. A box luncheon followed then Mrs Paul V Taylor a former China missionary spoke of her work and her Hood College daughter Nancy Taylor entered as freshman. Rev Nelson C Brown Walker sville dismissed. Attendees from Frederick included Mrs John S Adams recording secretary and Mrs Abbott president.

Parkway Rally Day at Parkway Church of God

The annual Sunday school and church rally day services will be held Sunday in each department of the Parkway Church of God. Rev. Wm. T. Jackson, pastor, will lead worship with a sermon by Jesse P. Garner of Uniontown. The evening will feature a sacred music program by the church choir.
