Maryland Keno Program Faces 10 Million Equipment Surplus
Maryland holds nearly $10 million in keno terminals in a Howard County warehouse as the Lottery Agency struggles to recruit operators. With 1,200 terminals, it would take about a year to activate all, even at a pace of 10 new locations monthly. The state has paid GTECH $5.6 million for 750 machines and plans $3.9 million more for 523, with interest costs of at least $225,000 next year.
