Motion Denied In Teacher's Trial Over Delinquency Charge
In Rockville the circuit court denied a motion for acquittal by Selma Samels for John L. Snyder a 40 year old English teacher at Kennedy High School. The judge will consider a second acquittal motion after both sides presented evidence. The case centers on charges of keeping the girl away from home and alleged sexual intercourse with a 17 year old student. The state must prove only the count about keeping the girl away from home. The girl who disappeared earlier this year testified regarding her relationship with Snyder and the times she stayed at his house. She had known Snyder since December 1970 and described visits with Kennedy High teachers and students. Her deposition indicated patterns of visits and travel with Snyder before her arrest.
