Neglected Elderly Help Program Ends in Washington
Project FIND aimed to locate and assist elderly Washington residents with no obvious support. The program, funded by the Office of Economic Opportunity, was shut down as Congress ordered a $6 billion spending cut. In 13 months the effort reached about 8,000 people, with 32 staff including retired volunteers, and several recipients gained food, income, or care through social services.
