The United States may witness a great meteor shower Wednesday night as Earth passes near a comet's path. Observers could see up to 40 000 meteors in two hours if skies are clear and moonlight is not too bright.
Hermann C. Schmidt a welder built an 85 foot schooner for a 25000 mile Pacific cruise to Okinawa and other battlefields. He sails with his wife and seven friends for about a year and a half, plans to pick up three more in Florida. The vessel carries 3000 square feet of sail and can seat 12.
Community Chest drive committees were named by chairmen led by A. B. Columus. The general canvass will be run by women under Mrs. Harry D. Radcliff, with names to be announced. Plans move forward to start next Monday and push for an early conclusion. Read lists include industrial, governmental, commercial, fraternal, and public groups with many named individuals and roles. A separate note reports a bride-to-be, Rose de Febrizio, collapsed and died en route to her wedding in Tawood, New Jersey.

Exhibits and livestock moved out by today, premiums payable at Citizens National Bank after November 4 with unclaimed money donated after December 1.
The Mount St Marys College retreat in Emmitsburg begins Tuesday evening and runs through Friday morning. Rev. Lawrence Schott of Harrisburg Diocese leads as retreat master delivering sermons. Activities include morning Mass daily, four periods of conference and meditation, rosary and stations of the cross each evening, with a full exposure of the Blessed Sacrament all night Thursday.
Friday morning closing services feature Father Schott, head of Harrisburg Catholic High School, famed among ex servicemen for the wartime Harrisburg veterans club he organized and ran. He also contributes a weekly column to Sunday Visitor offering veterans guidance.
