Schools Will Issue War Ration Book No 4 in County

The Frederick county Board of Education announced that War Ration Book No 4 will be issued at public schools on Thursday October 28 Friday October 29 and Saturday October 30 with issuance starting around 1 30 p m and continuing to about 9 p m on the first two days. Schools close about 1 p m on the issuance days. The Frederick county War Price and Rationing Board will cooperate, and further notices will name participating schools. Also reported were teacher appointments and transfers at Frederick High Parkay Thurmont New Market and other schools noting overall similar enrollment to last year yet some vacancies such as in Thurmont High School.

Scrap Drive Highlights 938 Tons Collected at Meeting

City and county industries and officials praised WPE authorities at the auditorium for turning in scrap over the past year. J W Stewart noted 958 tons reported through July 31 and urged continued effort to meet the 1943 six month goal of 9.8 million tons for munitions and shipping. He warned of shortages for all paper and materials. A film "The Life and Death of the Hornet" was shown afterward.
