Pirates Prove They Can Face Yankees In World Series
The Pittsburgh Pirates, confident after a Game One win, relied on Elroy Face to seal a 4 2 victory over the New York Yankees. Face struck out Mantle and fanned Berra to end the eighth, then turned back Howard’s ninth inning homer with a double play. Virdon’s fourth inning running catch and a delay steal by Virdon helped swing momentum as pitching, especially from Vernon Law, kept the Pirates ahead.
