Subway explosion and fatalities halt Philadelphia work

A gas explosion in a Millard Construction subway tunnel for the Philadelphia Rapid Transit Company wrecked the Sixth Street area. Workers were trapped or injured amid burning timbers as water filled the tunnel. Two men died, several others injured, and investigators led by police and fire officials probe the cause.
