Santa Clara uses bail kiosk to free suspects by credit card
In San Jose California starting this week Santa Clara County will offer an interactive bail kiosk letting suspects use four credit cards to post bail and win release within minutes of booking. The system targets minor crimes with bails under 5000 and refunds the basic bail once the case resolves if the defendant appears in court. County officials say it cuts costs and eases jail crowding while bail bondsmen oppose the unlicensed service and question legal status.
